Canadian Adventist Youth Summit
This year, hundreds of youth gathered in the beautiful province of Quebec for the Canadian Adventist Youth Summit. From September 18th to the 22nd, the PUR Hotel, a charming establishment located in Quebec city welcomed and housed delegates from as far as British Columbia, all the way to Ontario and of course, Quebec. United by the theme “Creator Unknown”, the Canadian youth were led to discover, through meditations and training, the God that made them and loves them so much.
Every night since Thursday, a spiritual program was presented in one of the hotel conference rooms. The souls of the youth were blessed by the songs of the praise teams led by either Pastor Hong or the Montreal House of Hope. They were also taught how in new, creative ways by leaders of the Compassion Ministry in Ontario. A questions and answers segment was also presented with interviewees such as Pastor Joseph Khabbaz, the main speaker of the event; Tracy Wood, the Youth Director for the North American Division; and the speakers of the different workshops to answer the questions the youth had, whether about the church organization or about their personal experience.
Pastor Khabbaz’s messages truly touched the heart of the people. He presented God as a kind and loving Father who cherishes and values his children. “Don’t let anyone treat you by what you’re made of, but by who you belong to”, he said. We hope that that notion will guide our youth.
In addition to the vibrant spiritual moments, one of the Summit’s highlight happened outside of the hotel when the youth, under the guidance of Pastor Ngoy Kyala, were sent out to sing and pray in the neighborhood and even in a senior’s home. The SDACC Youth Director, Brian Whal, encouraged the teens to continue to influence their community by “being the hands, the feet and the smile of Jesus”. They were also equipped for that upcoming task for they had access to a variety of interesting workshops. Many appreciated that several of them tackled the topic of mental health, different means of evangelism and the adventist youth take on LGBTQ issues.
The weekend was blessed and unforgettable. We thank all of those whom in one way of the other, helped to organize it. Already, we invite you to join us for the next major youth event: Just Claim It 2020, in Toronto. God bless the Adventist Youth.
