Adventist Community Services (ACS)

Adventist Community Services (ACS) is the channel through which local Seventh-day Adventist churches respond to the needs of their immediate community, neighborhood, or city, regardless of ethnicity, politics, or religion. ACS operates on behalf of local churches—motivating, training, equipping, and mobilizing church members at the local level.

In Canada, the Adventist Church is encouraging its Conferences to work in partnership with ADRA Canada to coordinate and manage their Adventist Community Services (ACS).  The Quebec Conference joins Alberta and Manitoba-Saskatchewan in this new approach to serving our communities.  While local churches remain free to join or not this new initiative, we hope that over the next few years, all our members will become ADRA volunteers in the service of our fellow Quebecers.

“What is the difference between ACS and ADRA?”

ADRA is the official non-governmental organization (NGO) sponsored by the Seventh-day Adventist Church to provide aid and structured support at both national and international levels. Their efforts receive funding support from governments and corporations who require them to have administrative, financial, and program management structure distinct from the Church and its other institutions. ADRA operates on a larger scale and does not proselytize. God’s love in ADRA’s programs is expressed when it reaches out to those in need regardless of race, gender, and political, or religious affiliation. We work in harmony with a broad array of cultures, traditions, and people of non-Christian faith, respecting the human dignity of all. The positive impact of ADRA’s contribution globally validates our heritage and belief in benevolent giving.

On Thursday, August 25, 2024, ADRA Canada announced the appointment of Jean Renaud as its Regional Representative for Quebec.

“Jean brings with him 20 years’ experience as head of Information Technology (IT), combined with the accounting training and software support for some 50 volunteer treasurers at a Quebec-based registered charity.  He also worked for 6 years in an oil company and 7 years in an accounting firm, all based in the Montreal area and always in the same fields. A native of Montreal (Verdun), he has been married to Carole for over thirty years.  He holds a BBA degree (Bachelor of Business Administration) from the École des HEC de Montréal, and a MSA degree (Master of Science in Administration) from Andrews University in Michigan, USA.

His enthusiasm, love of community service and the well-being of others, and visionary spirit motivated him to join ADRA Canada in developing its French-speaking Quebec chapter, in collaboration with the local partners and volunteers, as well as with the Quebec civil authorities and other community and humanitarian organizations” Steve Matthews, CEO-Adra Canada
