1st International MG Camporee, Summit Bechtel Reserve

What a privilege and joy to be part of the very first International Master Guide Camporee! Our hearts are overflowing with gratitude for this historic gathering. It was a powerful opportunity to connect with fellow Master Guides from across the globe, sharing in fellowship, service, and the pure joy of the Lord.

The seminars were rich with insight, equipping us with fresh ideas to engage children and fostering true collaboration among leaders. The camaraderie was unmatched, strengthened by times of reflection, deep conversations, and shared laughter. The facilities were great! We had toilets, showers (some with hot water!), and a spotless campsite that reflected the care and discipline of Master Guides. Surrounded by breathtaking mountains, lush nature, and the beauty of a scenic on-site bridge, the setting was simply unforgettable. The weather was warm, but a gentle breeze kept us comfortable. We had the perfect weather for camping (no rain) and the fact that there were almost no mosquitoes was an added blessing!

The evening sermons by Dr. Myron Edmonds were nothing short of heartfelt, inspiring, and transparent messages which focused on loving what we do. His messages were timely, relevant, and deeply rooted in God’s calling for leaders.  His first message was on “haystacks”, an Adventist staple used as a quick meal.  We will never look at “haystacks” the same again.

During the day we were able to sign up to attend many conference by Advent Health and many other NAD presenters.  One of the most valuable sessions some of us including myself attended was on ministering to children with special needs. This course reminded us of the importance of truly understanding and supporting every child and family in our clubs.

What made this camporee so unique was its focus; this time, it was all about us as leaders. It felt more like a retreat, put on by leaders, for leaders which centered on our mental health, discovering our “why,” and reigniting our purpose in club ministries. We also had the chance to connect with God in a powerful way through the beauty of nature. Representing Quebec on the world stage was an honour, and the bonds we formed with our own conference leaders were deeply meaningful. The Summit proved to be an excellent choice of location. Just as Adventurers have their camp and Pathfinders have theirs, now the Master Guides have their own special gathering. The Quebec/Canada placement on site was prime, and the exhibition hall, full of vendors, added to the vibrant atmosphere. Next time, Quebec needs a booth (just saying). We also participated in both opening and closing ceremonies proudly holding our Quebec and Canada Flags. A special highlight was on the final night when Dr. Myron Edmonds gave the Quebec Conference a shoutout from the stage.  He had visited our campsite during the Sabbath and tasted our Creole food and loved it! Moments like that made the experience even more personal and memorable.

Looking ahead, we hope this camporee will be longer next time, and that another one will take place within the next three years. It would be wonderful to have greater support to make the trip more affordable for Master Guides, allowing more to participate and perhaps even sponsor a Master Guide in Training who is excelling in their program.

To our leaders and master guides who participated in this grandiose experience : Carline Desroses ; Faith McQeen ; Marie-Paule Beldjiin, Benedicta Agbeshie ; Sonia Alcantara ; Carla Moya ; Sabina Pascale Pierre-Louis ; Lyns Jean-Pierre ;  Icka Samuels ; Pierre-Michel Joseph ; Kerlisse Paul-Emile ; Alvina Ryan and Lucson Bernard, we just say thank you for your committment and your willingness to serve.

To the leaders at the NAD (North American Division) who made this possible- thank you and congratulations for creating such a meaningful, uplifting, and empowering event.  May God’s abundant blessings rest upon every leader, guiding them with wisdom, strength, and a servant’s heart as they inspire and lead the next generation for His glory. We cannot wait to share all that we’ve learned, because above all, we are Called to Serve.
