For the past four years, Vision 300 — an initiative of the Personal Ministries and Sabbath School departments of the Quebec Conference — has organized a Bible Bootcamp to equip lay members to serve through friendship and small groups. On April 11 and 12, in Drummondville, participants benefited from the teaching of Pastor Eli Rojas, a professor at Andrews University and actively involved in evangelism across North America.

From the very beginning, the speaker reminded attendees that Jesus mingled with people in order to build genuine relationships. The example of the Samaritan woman clearly illustrates this approach: despite being socially rejected, she found love and compassion in Jesus. According to Eli Rojas, friendship remains the most effective way to share one’s faith. A sincere relationship opens the door to spiritual conversations and lasting commitment.

The statistics presented supported this approach. In fact, 82% of people who do not attend church would be at least somewhat open to going if they received an invitation. However, friendship plays a decisive role: people invited by a friend are far more likely to stay. In contrast, 70% of those who still believe in Jesus Christ but have left the church were originally brought by a stranger. In Seventh-day Adventist churches, 80% of faithful members were introduced by a friend. Word of mouth therefore remains the most effective method of evangelism.

Collectively, the Church is called to have a tangible impact in its community. Understanding local needs makes it possible to respond in meaningful ways. One striking example shared was that of a church that launched a summer camp for children after consulting municipal authorities, thereby becoming a true support for its neighborhood.
